William Pike has been opened as the $1.45 favourite by online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to take make it back-to-back West Australian jockey premierships.
Peter Knuckey is next in the market at $4.80, followed by Shaun O’Donnell ($8.50) and Paul Harvey ($9.00).
“Pike is the form jockey of the West, winning last year’s premiership with a strike rate of almost 20 percent, and he rightly heads the betting for 2012/13,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Unlike the battle between the jockeys, the race for the trainers’ premiership is much tighter, with 2011/12 winner Adam Durant installed as the $2.40 favourite, ahead of Jim Taylor ($3.80) and Neville Parnham ($6.50).
