Anna Meares looks set to have the final say in her battle with Victoria Pendleton, installed at $1.75 by online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to win more gold medals at the London Olympics than her fierce rival.
Pendleton has been priced as the $3.20 outsider to win more gold than Meares, with a tie at $4.20.
Meares heads the betting to win gold in the women’s sprint, firming from $2.38 into $2.20, and also in the women’s keiren, where she’s the $2.37 favourite.
Pendleton is priced at $2.88 and $5.00 respectively for the events.
“Forget the rest, the women’s cycling events look to be a two-horse race, of which the punters have overwhelmingly backed Meares to win,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Australia is the $2.40 favourite for the women’s team sprint, ahead of Germany ($2.80) and Great Britain ($3.25), and are on the second line of betting at $4.50 for the women’s team pursuit.
