USAIN BOLTS INTO $1.20

Usain Bolt has firmed from $1.57 into $1.20 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to take out the men’s 200m event at the London Olympics on the back of his blistering performance in the 100m final.

Fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake is on the second line of betting, but has eased from $2.70 out to $4.33, while Christophe LeMaitre is next in the market at a distant $41.

“Unsurprisingly, there was a major surge in interest from punters for Bolt to win the 200m following his breathtaking win in the 100m,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“He’s now attracted 83 percent of all bets wagered on the 200m market.”

Jamaica remains the firm favourite to take out the men’s 4 x 100m relay despite easing from $1.30 to $1.33, ahead of the USA, who’ve firmed from $4.00 into $3.40, while Australia remains the biggest outsider at $501.

SONNY BILL WILLIAMS, THE CHIEFS THE PUNTERS PICK

The Chiefs are the red-hot favourites for tomorrow’s Super Rugby Final, backed into $1.32 by punters with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.

Their South African opponents, the Sharks, are the $3.45 outsider in head-to-head betting.

Led by Sonny Bill Williams, the Chiefs have also attracted 73 percent of bets wagered on the line market, which gives the Sharks a 7.5 point start ($1.92).

“The money has been coming in two to one in favour of the Chiefs in head-to-head betting all week, with punters also backing the Kiwi side to comfortably cover the -7.5 point line,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

BOOKIE REFUNDS PUNTERS AFTER YOUNG AUSSIE BOXER GETS STIFF ARMED

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has refunded punters who backed Australian boxer Jay Opetaia their bets, after the 17-year-old star was controversially judged to have lost his Olympic games bout against world number two Teymur Mammadov.

Five judges ruled that Otepaia lost 12-11, despite experts suggesting the young star had pulled off a massive upset.

“In our opinion, the decision was wrong and the young Aussie boxer and his coach have every right to be furious,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“The least we can do is refund punters who backed Opetaia their bets. It doesn’t change the result, but in our eyes, it’s the right thing to do.”

GOLDEN GIRL ANNA MEARES TO HAVE PENDLETON’S MEASURE

Anna Meares looks set to have the final say in her battle with Victoria Pendleton, installed at $1.75 by online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to win more gold medals at the London Olympics than her fierce rival.

Pendleton has been priced as the $3.20 outsider to win more gold than Meares, with a tie at $4.20.

Meares heads the betting to win gold in the women’s sprint, firming from $2.38 into $2.20, and also in the women’s keiren, where she’s the $2.37 favourite.

Pendleton is priced at $2.88 and $5.00 respectively for the events.

“Forget the rest, the women’s cycling events look to be a two-horse race, of which the punters have overwhelmingly backed Meares to win,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Australia is the $2.40 favourite for the women’s team sprint, ahead of Germany ($2.80) and Great Britain ($3.25), and are on the second line of betting at $4.50 for the women’s team pursuit.

MORE SILVER FOR MAGNUSSEN

The James Magnussen-led Australian team are on the second line of betting at $6.00 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au for the men’s 4 x 100m medley relay, well behind $1.60 favourites, the USA.

The Missile also looks destined for more silver in the men’s 50m freestyle, priced as a $7.00 chance for gold behind favourite Cesar Cielo ($1.40) and American Cullen Jones ($6.50).

“Punters want nothing more than for our boys to pull off an upset in the medley relay, as there’s been comfortably more bets placed on Australia to win than the USA,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“And the same goes in the 50m freestyle, where Magnussen has attracted 82 percent of all bets taken on the race.”

Eamon Sullivan remains a $34 outsider for the 50m freestyle event.
