Danny Green Long Odds On To Beat Santiago

Danny Green is the raging $1.10 favourite with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au for tomorrow’s bout against Danny ‘The Bronx Bomber’ Santiago.

Santiago is the $6.50 outsider for the fight.

“The market suggests Danny Green will add to his 31 career wins in comfortable fashion,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Lauren Jackson Heavily Backed In Olympic Flag Betting

Leisel Jones continues to firm with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to be the Australian team flag bearer at the London Olympics, tightening from $6.00 into $5.50, but the biggest mover in betting has been basketball star Lauren Jackson.

Jackson has firmed from $13 into $9.00 after a surge in interest for the three-time silver medalist overnight.

Natalie Cook remains favourite at $2.00, with Drew Ginn, who’s drifted from $2.50 out to $2.60, next in the market.

“There’s now been more bets for Leisel Jones to be the Australian team flag bearer than for Natalie Cook,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said. “At one stage yesterday, wagers were coming in 6 to 1 in favour of Jones.”

“Punter support for Cook has really cooled, with all of the interest over the last 48 hours coming for the other female candidates in the market.”

Bookie Refunds Bets After British Open Meltdown

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has refunded all bets for punters who backed Adam Scott to win the British Open after the Australian gave up four strokes in the final four holes to hand the Major to Ernie Els.

“We all feel for Adam Scott, who had one hand on the claret jug but unfortunately it didn’t go his way at the end of the final round,” sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

“The least we can do is refund bets to ease the pain for patriotic punters who got behind our man, many of whom will be bleary-eyed at work this morning!”

The refund applies to all win bets and the win portion of each-way bets up to $1,000 per member.

Leisel Jones Firms In Olympic Flag Betting

Swimmer Leisel Jones has firmed from $8.00 into $6.00 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to be the Australian team flag bearer at the London Olympics, but it’s Natalie Cook who remains the favourite.

Cook, however, is drifting in the market, easing from $1.80 out to $2.00 as a result of punter support for Jones. Jones, who was opened as a $3.75 chance, had got out to as much as $26, before firming into the third line of betting.

Drew Ginn remains second in the market, but like Cook, has drifted, out to $2.50 from $2.10.

Jones and cyclist Anna Meares, who’s now into $9.00 from $10, are the only athletes to firm in betting in the last 24 hours.

“From the moment Natalie Cook said she’ll sit out the opening ceremony unless a female carries the flag, money started to come in for both Leisel Jones and Anna Meares, but not for Cook,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“The punters are definitely warming to Nick Green picking a female for the role.”

Adam Scott Odds On To Win British Open

Australian Adam Scott is now into $1.62 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to win this year’s British Open following another superb display in the third round which sees him enter Sunday with a four-stroke outright lead.

Scott (11-under) heads the market from Graeme McDowell (7-under) at $5.00, Tiger Woods (6-under) at $6.00 and the second round leader Brandt Snedeker (7-under) at $15.

“With the final round pin positions it’s going to be extremely hard for someone to shoot a really low score and challenge Scott, so one more solid round and the Claret Jug is his for the taking,” sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

“Those who backed him at $34 at the start of the tournament would be feeling pretty happy with themselves now!”

Kevin Moore is next in the market at $5.50, followed by Brad Fittler and Royce Simmons, who are both priced at $7.00. Mick Potter and Matt Elliott have been opened as $11 chances.

“There are some outstanding candidates in the market, but we’ve got Jason Taylor and Graham Murray slightly ahead of the rest,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

“It will be very interesting to see what the punters do from here, as you could argue a strong case for all of the names in the market.”

Aussie Glamour A Rough Hope In 2012 Miss World Betting

Miss Australia Jessica Kahawaty is a good chance of following in the famous footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins after being priced at $26 by online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to be crowned Miss Universe 2012.

Kahawaty is on the fourth line of betting, with Miss Mexico and Miss Peru the joint favourites at $15.

“Living up to Jen Hawkins is no mean feat, but Jessica is some hope of following suit,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“One thing is for sure though, punters will enjoy studying the form in what is a very open race.”

Miss Australia is at shorter odds than countries including New Zealand ($34), Sweden ($34), Brazil ($41) and the Netherlands ($51).

Melbourne Stars Early Favourites In 2012/13 Twenty20 Big Bash Betting

STARS TO HAVE THE BIGGEST BASH

Online bookmaker Sportsbet has installed the Melbourne Stars as the $5.50 favourites for the 2012/13 Twenty20 Big Bash.

The Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes have all been priced at $6.00, with the Adelaide Strikers next at $6.50 and inaugural champions Sydney Sixers opened at $7.00.

“We saw last year with the Sixers winning it all after being considered outsiders from the get go, that it’s a wide open competition and the market reflects that,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

“The Stars have a very good team on paper and if they sign Shane Warne they’ll be hard to beat, but teams like Brisbane, who boast a good attack and strong middle order batting, and Perth also look strong.”

The Melbourne Renegades ($7.50) and Sydney Thunder ($8.50) round out the market.

Stephanie Rice Has Punters On The Boil For London Olympics

Punters with online bookmaker Sportsbet are tipping Stephanie Rice will win gold on the opening day of swimming competition at the London Olympics, backing her to take out the Women’s 400m Individual Medley.

Elizabeth Beisel of the United States is the $2.00 favourite for the event, with Rice on the second line of betting at $4.50 with Hannah Miley from Great Britain.

“Rice has attracted 86 percent of money so far wagered on the market,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

“There’s been a small amount of support for both Elizabeth Beisel and Hannah Miley, but the punters think Rice will be first to touch down.”

Aussie Blair Evans is priced at $101 to win the event.
