Speediness Well Backed To Back To Back In Rupert Clarke Stakes

Punters with online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia aren’t convinced Strawberry Boy can step-up to elite level in Sunday’s Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.

The lightly raced five-year-old is the $5.50 favourite in a wide betting race but the now Peter Moody trained runner has been friendless in betting with punters turning their attention to $15 hope Speediness, who was opened at $21.

Rebel Dane ($6.00) follows Strawberry Boy in the market and is the second best backed runner, with Solzhenitsyn ($6.50) the only other runner in single figures. Ferlax ($11) is the third best supported.

“The wraps are big for Strawberry Boy, who has been in the money nine of his ten starts and won six of them, but our punters aren’t keen on him here. Instead, they’ve launched into Craig Williams and Speediness at big odds,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

Sportsbet Australia punters will get their bet on the Rupert Clarke Stakes refunded if their horse runs second in the race.

Weather Tipped To Hold Off For The Grand Final

With the weather tipped to have an impact on the result of the game, online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia have opened several markets on what Mother Nature has in store for the MCG tomorrow!
It looks a 50/50 chance that the rain could hold off, with $1.85 priced for there to be no rain during the match while punters who think it will bucket down can also get odds of $1.85.

Sportsbet are also offering over/under disposal markets for a number of players, with plenty of interest in Sam Mitchell to get over 24.5 touches at $1.90 despite the impending tag from Ryan Crowley. Punters who think Crowley will do the job and keep Mitchell to 24 touches or less can get odds of $1.85.

Jarryd Roughead ($7.50) and Buddy Franklin ($8.50) head the first goal scorer markets, however punters can get odds of $5.50 and have both key forwards covered!

In match betting, punters continue to back Fremantle despite being $2.25 underdogs, with the Hawks holding firm at $1.68.

“Question marks over the weather has seen punters continue to come for Fremantle. But all of the big bets have been on the Hawks. It’s been such an interesting betting game with punters really split on how it will go,” said Sportsbet’s Shaun Anderson.

In good news for punters, if their team scores 80 points or more but losses the Grand Final, Sportsbet Australia will refund their head to head bet.

Money Rolling In Support Of Dockers To Win AFL Grand Final

Fremantle is attracting the bulk of late support to win tomorrow’s AFL Grand Final with punters cutting the Dockers’ odds from $2.45 into $2.25 at Sportingbet.

Hawthorn’s odds have drifted from $1.58 out to $1.68.

“The money has been running 60/40 in Fremantle’s favour since Thursday,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“We’ve taken an equal number of five-figure wagers for each side but the Dockers are attracting a much higher volume of bets, particularly in the $20 to $100 range,” Brown said.

Hawthorn star Sam Mitchell has firmed from $8 into $7 equal favouritism with team-mate Luke Hodge and Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe for the Norm Smith Medal. Michael Barlow is $9 in front of David Mundy and Matthew Pavlich at $12.

“One punter will collect $40,000 if Mitchell wins the Norm Smith after having $5,000 on him at the $8,” Brown said.

Sportingbet expects to hold $5 million dollars across the 270 AFL Grand Final markets it is taking bets on.

Money Floods In For Freo To Win The Flag

Money continues to come for Fremantle to cause an upset in tomorrow’s AFL Grand Final against Hawthorn with their odds backed in from $2.40 to $2.25.

Hawthorn remains a clear favourite at $1.68 but has eased from $1.58 due to the constant support for Fremantle.

“In the last couple of days bets are running 60/40 in favour of Fremantle which is surprising considering the Hawks have been the best team all year,” Centrebet’s Michael Felgate said.

“Hawthorn has been the 2013 premiership favourite since the day after they lost to Sydney last year but in the past few days we have seen a significant swing against them.”

“If the rain comes as predicted we could see even more support for the Dockers as most punters believe a wet Grand Final will suit them better,” Felgate said.

Punters are predicting a tight Grand Final with a winning margin of 1-39 points the favourite way for both teams.

In Norm Smith medal betting, punters have come for Sam Mitchell backing him in from $9 to $7 equal favourite to be best on ground.

“Mitchell was a huge plunge to win the Brownlow Medal on Monday night but punters missed out so they are having another crack on him to win the Norm Smith,” Felgate said.

Manly To Start Favourites To Win 2013 NRL Grand Final

Manly is now a $2 favourite to win the 2013 NRL Grand Final, following the Sea Eagles’ impressive 30 to 20 come from behind preliminary final win over South Sydney tonight.

The Roosters are $2.60 to be NRL Premiers, ahead of Newcastle at $5.50.

“Obviously Manly are favourites because they’ve already booked their spot in the final, but there’s every chance after that performance tonight that they’ll stay favourites even once their opponent is known,” Sportingbet spokesman Andrew Brown said.

Punters expect Manly’s opponent to be the Roosters, who are $1.40 favourites to beat Newcastle at $3.05 on Saturday night.

$144,000 Punt On Roosters / Souths Double

Neighbouring arch-rivals South Sydney and the Sydney Roosters haven’t met in a grand final for 82 years, but a punter at Sportingbet is confident that is all about to change.

The punter has placed $72,000 on both the Rabbitohs and the Roosters to win their respective preliminary finals and seal a grand final berth this weekend. Should the punter be right, he will collect $200,160.

“His confidence is shared by the majority of our punters, who are overwhelmingly supporting both the Roosters and the Bunnies this weekend,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“The money is running 80/20 in favour of Souths beating Manly and betting is even more lopsided in the other game, where more than 85% of wagers are for the Roosters,” Brown said.

The Rabbitohs have firmed from $1.50 into $1.42 at Sportingbet, while Manly has eased from $2.65 out to $2.95.

In the other preliminary final, the Roosters have shortened from $1.40 into $1.33, resulting in the Knights’ odds drifting from $3.00 out to $3.45.

The Roosters are $2.40 favourites at Sportingbet to win the grand final, ahead of Souths at $2.60, Manly at $6 and Newcastle at $7.50.

Sonny Bill Williams has firmed from $10 into $6 to win the Clive Churchill medal while Greg Inglis is a $7 second favourite.

Dockers Punter Hoping For A $50,000 Collect On Freo AFL Flag Win

He could be Fremantle’s most passionate punter and should the Dockers beat Hawthorn on Saturday, the Sportingbet Australia client will collect exactly $50,000 for his undisputed faith in Freo to win the flag.

Since having $250 on Fremantle to win the Grand Final at odds of $12 with Sportingbet back on March 22, the punter has placed a further 8 individual bets totalling $2720 on the Dockers to be 2013 AFL Premiers.

“That’s on average a bet every three weeks on Fremantle throughout the season and he’s never lost faith, as some of his biggest bets came directly after the Dockers lost to Hawthorn in Round 4,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“He’s by far and away our most devoted Fremantle punter,” Brown said.

The punter has also anchored Fremantle in a number of doubles, including a $1200 double on Fremantle for the flag and Gary Ablett to win the Brownlow medal, at odds of $9.

“He has a few juicy cross-code doubles still alive too, and if the Dockers win and then the Roosters or Rabbitohs win the NRL final, he’ll win another $50k,” Brown said.

Fremantle is $2.30 at Sportingbet to win the Grand Final. Hawthorn is $1.65.

TAB Markets Push For Pendlebury In Brownlow Medal Betting

Collingwood midfielder Scott Pendlebury is starting to emerge as a real danger to Brownlow medal favourite Gary Ablett ($1.65).

Pendlebury is one of the best backed players today and has firmed from $11 to $8 since this morning.

“Given we have seen just two favourites win the award in the past six years the move isn’t a total surprise,” said TAB’s Matt Jenkins.

“Ablett remains the most popular pick, but there is real interest around Sam Mitchell ($5) and Scott Pendlebury ($8).”

Mitchell has been the centre of a huge plunge in recent days firming from $21 to $5 since Thursday night.

Gary Ablett will start the shortest priced Brownlow medal favourite since Shane Crawford ($1.50) won the award in ‘99.

It is the fourth time Ablett has been favourite; he won in ’09.

Live betting will be available during the medal count.

Knights & Bunnies Plunged In NRL Finals Betting

Punters with online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia are backing Newcastle to continue their fairy-tale run to the 2013 NRL Premiership, with more money bet on the Knights than the Roosters ahead of their preliminary final on Saturday night.

55 percent of all money bet on the game has gone on the Knights, who’ve firmed from $3.40 into $3.30, with the Roosters easing from $1.33 out to $1.35.

As the last team from the bottom four of the top eight still remaining, the Knights are two wins from a premiership glory and the $100,000 bounty offered by Sportsbet for a side outside the top four to win the this year’s premiership.

If the Roosters versus Knights clash is the chalk, then Friday night’s preliminary final between the Rabbitohs and Sea Eagles is the cheese. Money is flooding in 4 to 1 in favour of South Sydney, who remain the $1.48 favourites, as Manly drift out to $2.70.

In premiership winner betting, the Roosters are outright favourites at $2.50, ahead of the Bunnies ($2.75), Manly ($5.00) and Knights ($8.00).

Bookie Expects Big Punters To Come For Ablett In Brownlow Betting

The plunge on Sam Mitchell to win the Brownlow has resulted in Gary Ablett’s odds drifting to their biggest since September 9, but Sportingbet is bracing itself for a barrage of big bets for the Gold Coast captain in the hours leading up to the final announcement.

Ablett’s odds have eased from $1.65 out to $1.80 at Sportingbet following a mammoth nation-wide plunge on Mitchell that saw the Hawthorn’s stars odds slashed from $21 into $5.50.

“Mitchell should really be a $12 chance but punters have backed him to win nearly half a million with us and even though he’s now officially our worst result, we’re more than happy to keep taking bets for him at those odds,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“The big punters traditionally step in on Monday and we’re expecting to take a number of five-figure and possibly even six-figure bets for Ablett, especially now that his odds have eased,” Brown said.

Sportingbet’s analysts have Ablett on 30 votes, two votes ahead of Joel Selwood ($5.25) on 28 and four ahead of Scott Pendlebury ($11) and Dane Swan ($14), both on 26. Mitchell is fifth on 24 votes.

“28 votes could be enough to win so if our assessment of Ablett is slightly out, Selwood is the one that represents huge value,” Brown said.

“There’s been absolutely no love for Pendlebury and Swan and we haven’t written a bet over $100 for either of them since the end of the regular season,” Brown said.

Ablett is $1.50 at Sportingbet to be leading after Round 10, ahead of Jobe Watson at $5.50 and Patrick Dangerfield at $8.

Such has been the intensity of the plunge on Mitchell his odds of receiving 27 or more votes at Sportingbet have been crunched from $8.50 into just $4.25.

“I think there’s going to be a lot of disappointed Mitchell punters on Tuesday,” Brown said.
