Poms Hot Favourites At Sportsbet To Blouse The Aussie’s At Home

They might have relieved themselves on The Oval pitch last night but the Poms won’t get much relief when they take on Australia this summer according to online bookmaker Sportsbet.
The Poms are favourites at $1.91 to win the Ashes in Australia, but the Aussies are a live chance at $2.83 after showing glimpses of promise away from home. A drawn series is paying $5.50.

“England left their mark on the pitch at The Oval, but we reckon the Aussies are a much better chance at home this summer to end the flow of Pommy runs,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes.

Despite England being favourites to win the Ashes, punters are backing Australia to break their winning drought and win at least one test throughout the series – $1.08 is on offer for Michael Clarke’s men to win one test and $5.50 is available to not win one.

Australia Open Test Outsiders For First Time At Home

Australia ($2.35) has opened outsiders to win a Test series at home for the first time ever with tabe.com.au.

England ($2.15) is a slight favourite to win the Ashes series in Australia starting at the Gabba on 21 November; a drawn series is $5.

“The fact England is favourite to win the series in Australia won’t surprise many, but shows the slide of Australia’s once powerful dominance,” said TAB’s Matt Jenkins.

“Australia, once unbeatable at home in Test cricket, has only claimed four series wins in their last eight in Australia.

“Despite the series defeat in England, punters are likely to be forgiving of Australia after they showed some glimpses of form.”

Australia is $2.65 to win the first Test at the Gabba; they haven’t been beaten at the venue in 25 years.

Centrebet Payout & Refund All Bets On Essendon

Centrebet punters who backed Essendon have no need to sweat as they won’t lose a cent if the AFL strips the club of its premiership points.

Centrebet will pay out and refund all bets placed on the Bombers in finals markets if they are kicked out of this year’s finals series.

“The punters who backed Essendon in good faith are innocent bystanders caught up in the scandal and don’t deserve to be punished, so they will not lose one cent,” Centrebet’s Michael Felgate said.

Essendon’s loss of points will actually  provide a windfall for some punters as Centrebet will pay-out in full anyone who backed Essendon to make the top 8 and to miss the top 8.

Centrebet will also pay-out on the team that takes Essendon’s place in the finals. All bets on the team that would have finished 9th to make the top 8 and miss the top 8 will be paid in full providing another bonus for lucky Centrebet punters.

All Blacks Shorts Odds To Win Bledisloe Cup

The All Blacks will find themselves fielding their fourth string flyhalf in this weekend’s return leg of the Bledisloe Cup in Wellington, but punters with online boookie Sportsbet still have them at very shorts odds to lift the prestigious trophy.

Punters are getting behind the boys from across the ditch with New Zealand paying $1.16 to touch up the Aussies, with the Wallabies paying $5.25.

“Australia were well below par in the first match with crucial errors leading to points, hopefully on the return leg the Wallabies can turn things around and give the punters something to cheer about,” said Sportset’s Shaun Anderson.

To make things a bit more interesting for punters, if an Aussie scores a try at any stage in the first half, Sportsbet will refund losing first tryscorer bets!

Sweet Idea Set To Start Favourite In Silver Shadow Stakes

Praise for smart filly Sweet Idea from top jockey Tommy Berry has helped ensure the filly starts favourite when she resumes at Warwick Farm tomorrow.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet has the Golden slipper placegetter at the head of betting on $2.30 for the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes. Sweet Idea has the backing of punters too, attracting five times the support than any other runner.

“Tommy Berry has been vocal in the media, saying Sweet Idea will be a big player in the spring. Punters have obviously taken note as she has been solid favourite since betting opened,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

Darley three-year-old Montsegur is next in betting on $3.80, followed by Twilight Royale ($5.00), Greyfilly ($8.50) and Thump ($11). Of the roughies, $26 shot Snitzel’s Jewel has its supporters.

Thanks to Sportsbet’s Top Tote Plus, punters will get the best return of all three TABs or the starting price on win bets placed not just on this weekend’s races but on every Australian horse race, every day

Rain Affair Well Backed To Win Warwick Stakes

Money continues to pour in for Rain Affair to take out tomorrow’s Warwick Stakes with the star six-year-old attracting ten times more money than the second best supported runner with online bookmaker Sportsbet.

Rain Affair, opened as the $2.50 favourite, has firmed into $2.00, despite drawing barrier 13 in the 14-horse field. Such is the weight of money for the gelding, second favourite Streama has eased from $3.50 to $4.60.

“This has been an amazing go and the money just keeps on coming. We thought the wide draw might slow punters, but it has been quite the opposite,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

The Chris Waller trained Beaten Up has firmed slightly, $11 into $9.00, after drawing the rails for the Warwick Farm Group 2, joining Toydini on the third line of betting, while roughies Veyron ($34), Metal Bender ($51) and Kellini ($51) all have some admirers.

Despite Rain Affair being the clear pick by punters and race favourite, Sportsbet will refund punters their bet on Saturday’s Warwick Stakes if their horse runs second to Rain Affair.

GWS To Start Favourite For First Time In AFL History

Greater Western Sydney will start favourite in a match for the first time since joining the AFL when it plays Melbourne on Saturday at home after a sustained betting plunge.

“They have been backed off the map this week, we put them up $2 outsiders against the Des but the punters have smashed them into $1.83. They have been the best backed team of the round,” Centrebet’s Michael Felgate said.

Despite being winless this season GWS looks to be the “form” team going into the game against Melbourne after pushing Collingwood for three-quarters last week.

Goal-kicking gun Jeremy Cameron has also been well backed to win the Coleman Medal after a career-best 7 goals against the Pies last week took him to 50 goals for the season, just 4 behind leaders.

Cameron was $201 to win the Coleman at the start of the season but is now an $11 chance at Centrebet.

“We had one very astute punter have $125 on Cameron at $201 pre-season. He is now sweating at a $25,000 windfall if Cameron wins the goal-kicking,” Felgate said.

PUNTERS VAULT HOOKER INTO SECOND FAVOURITE

One vault was more than enough for punters with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to continue to jump on Steve Hooker to win gold in London, backing the Aussie from $10 into $6.00.

Hooker now finds himself on the second line of betting after being opened at $17, while favourite Renaud Lavillenie has eased from $1.83 out to $2.00.

“Prior to the heats, Hooker had attracted 88 percent of the money, most of which were small wagers,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“However, since the heat he’s started to attract bigger bets at the same rate the smaller ones were coming in.”

Bjorn Otto ($7.00), Malte Mohr ($8.50) and Evgeniy Lukyanenko ($14) round out the top five in betting.

“So far, Daley has been the one the punters want, attracting 82 percent of bets on the market,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Steve Folkes has been priced as a $17 chance, while Mick Potter ($26), Andrew Johns ($31), Des Hasler ($34) and Peter Sterling ($101) remained steady.

PEDAL TO THE OLYMPIC MEDAL FOR AUSSIE DUO

Sam Willougby and Caroline Buchanan look set to add to Australia’s medal tally at the London Olympics, priced at $4.50 and $9.00 respectively with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to take gold in the men’s and women’s BMX events.

Willoughby is on the third line of betting in the men’s event, behind defending Olympic champion Maris Strombergs ($3.75) and Frenchman Joris Daudet ($4.33), while fellow Aussies Brian Kirkham ($13) and Khalen Young ($34) are also in the market.

Great Britain’s Shanaze Reade is the $2.50 favourite in the women’s BMX, followed by Magalie Pottier ($4.50), Sarah Walker ($6.00) and Mariana Pajon ($8.00). Australian Lauren Reynolds is a $15 chance of winning gold.

“Although not favourites, both Willoughby and Buchanan have the support of Aussie punters, with the pair each attracting 90 percent of all money wagered on their respective events,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
