Zoustar Drifts Out To Even Money For Coolmore Stakes

Boom three-year-old Zoustar may be the talk of the breeding world but he’s failing to excite punters ahead of Saturday’s Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington. The Chris Waller trained colt has drifted from $1.80 out to $2.00 at Sportingbet.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said he’s struggling to write a bet for Zoustar to win the $500,000 Group 1 race.

“Punters are looking at their options and there’s been strong support for both Missy Longstocking ($16 into $10) and Thermal Current ($18 into $15) to upset the favourite,” Sullivan said.

“Zoustar is having his first go up the straight and there’s much more depth in this race compared to what he beat last start so I can appreciate why punters are being cautious,” Sullivan said.

“The money suggests there’s a big upset brewing,” Sullivan said.

Divine Calling has also firmed from $11 into $10 equal second favouritism with Missy Longstocking at Sportingbet while Éclair Big Bang has firmed from $19 into $17.

2014 AFL Draw Released & 1st Round Betting Odds Open

Online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia has opened betting on Round 1 of the 2014 AFL season and as expected Hawthorn and Fremantle are tipped to start strongly.

The Dockers are $1.50 favourites to beat Collingwood ($2.55) in the first match of the season. Defending champions, the Hawks ($1.10), are also favoured to win their season opener against Brisbane ($6.50).

“The Hawks should start where they left off at the end of last season against a rebuilding Brisbane. It appears the first round could also have a bearing on the wooden spoon with contenders St Kilda and Melbourne doing battle,’’ sportsbet’s Shaun Anderson said.

St Kilda ($1.65) are favoured to beat Melbourne($2.20) at Etihad, while Sydney are the shortest price of the round at $1.04 against Greater Western Sydney ($10).

The tightest match of the opening round appears to be between North Melbourne and Essendon, with  Sportsbet unable to split the two teams at $1.90 each.

In premiership betting, Sydney, Fremantle and Hawthorn all look like the ones to beat, equal favourites at $5.00.

TAB Offering Odds On Goalless Newcastle Jets Getting One In The Net

It has been a poor start to the A-League season for the Newcastle Jets who have failed to score a goal in their three matches this season. The are last on the ladder with two draws an a loss.

“It doesn’t get any easier this week when they travel to Gosford for the F3 Derby against reigning champions and title favourites Central Coast,” said TAB’s Glenn Munsie.

The good news is they welcome back their marquee striker, Emile Heskey, who missed the first three games due to injury.

“Heskey should add some much needed spark to their attack,” Munsie said.

TAB has opened a market on when the Jets will score their next goal – no goal scored is the $2.20 favourite.

Warriors Set To Start Inaugural Rugby League Nines Favourites

The New Zealand Warriors are still $7.00 favourites to win the inaugural Nines series next February according to online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia.

Arguably the toughest group, pool yellow will see the home side come face to face with fellow title contenders the Canberra Raiders ($8.00), the Cowboys ($11) and Manly ($13).

Grand Final winners Sydney Roosters are also in with a shout at $9.00 on the third line of betting.
“The Warriors are a pretty safe bet to field their best players with it being played on home turf, but punters are being cautious until they get a good idea of how the others plan to line up” said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.

Complacent Eases After Drawing The Carpark In VRC Derby

One time Victoria Derby favourite Complacent has eased from $4.20 to $5.00 with online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia for Saturday’s Group 1 at Flemington.

If emergencies do not gain a start Complacent will jump from barrier 14, two from the outside. Favourite Savvy Nature ($4.60) fared slightly better and will start from gate 11 in the 16-horse field.

“Complacent has drawn the rails in his last two wins, so this will be new for the Darley colt. Savvy Nature is probably the least affected as he will go back,’’ Soportsbet’s Shaun Anderson said.

Two runners that fared well in the draw are Polanski ($8.50 into $7.00) and San Diego ($8.00 into $7.50).

Sportsbet.com.au will be paying out to 4 places in the Derby this weekend.

In other Derby day races, the Chris Waller trained Red Tracer ($2.25) dominates betting in the Myer Classic. The only other horse under double figures is Queenslander Fire Up Fifi ($5.50), while Zoustar has firmed further for the Coolmore Stakes.

VRC Derby Favourites Blow After Unfavourable Barrier Draws

Victoria Derby favourites Complacent and Savvy Nature have both drifted at Sportingbet Australia after drawing horror barriers for Saturday’s $1.5 million Classic.

Savvy Nature is now the new outright Victoria Derby favourite, despite easing from $4.20 out to $4.60 since the barrier draw, with punters deserting former favourite Complacent.

Complacent has drawn barrier 16 while Savvy Nature drew barrier 13 in the field of 16 plus emergencies.

“Since drawing barrier 16 we haven’t taken a bet on Complacent, the punters have been quick to jump off so we have pushed his price out from $4.20 to $5,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.

“The Sydney colts have been handed visitor draws and with only a very short run to the first turn from the 2500m start point they will most likely find themselves posted very wide early in the Derby,”

Pre-draw third favourite Criterion fared no better drawing barrier 14, his price has also eased from $8 out to $9.

“All three will either have to go forward early and risk spending some petrol or go back and settle towards the tail. Either option is not ideal so we are happy to risk them now,” Felgate said.

The big firmers in betting are Polanski, who has drawn to get the run of the race from barrier 1 and San Diego who also drew well in gate 6.

“We have brought Polanski into $7 from $8.5 and expect he will have plenty of support from that draw and San Diego into $7.5 from $9,” Felgate said.

“The Derby is usually won by the horse who gets the best run and settles well, Polanski and San Diego will get every chance to do that now.”

Scotland Starts Over $8.50 And Cause Huge World Cup Upset Over Tonga

Scotland got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start in upsetting Tonga in an epic 26-24 win.

The Steve McCormack coached side, who started $8.50, sealed the victory with a late try.

“It is the first upset of the tournament and should help generate plenty more interest,” said TAB’s Matt Jenkins.

“Heading into their first match, Scotland ($251 to $151) was the least most popular team to win the World Cup.

“We have taken more money on Wales ($2,501) and USA ($1,501) than we have on the Scots.”

The Bravehearts next meet Italy (Monday, 3am AEDT) at the same venue.

Punters are tipping the upsets to continue tomorrow with USA ($5.50 to $4.75) well backed to beat the Cook Islands.

Derby Day Betting Markets & Odds Now Open For Betting

Derby Day has traditionally been seen as the strongest day on the racing calendar and as a result online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia now has markets open for all races at Flemington this Saturday.

Headlined by the Victoria Derby, punters are split between Savvy Nature and Complacent, both equal favourites at $4.20.

Polanski is next in the market at $7.00, followed by San Diego and Criterion both at $8.00.
“Savvy Nature and Complacent are the class runners and look to have the race between them. At this stage punters appear unable to single one out, but that could change as race day nears,’’ sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson said.

Sportsbet will be paying out to 4 places in the Derby this weekend.

In other Group 1 markets this weekend, Red Tracer is the $2.25 favourite in the Myer Classic, Jet Away and Happy Trails share $4.60 favouritism in the Mackinnon Stakes and Zoustar looks the one to beat in the Coolmore Stakes, priced at $1.90.
