Guelph Set To Win Flight Stakes

Guelph should enhance her Melbourne carnival claims with a convincing win in Saturday’s Flight Stakes.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet Australiahas Guelph as the $1.45 favourite for the Group 1. Guelph is $17 in Cox Plate betting, but will no doubt firm with a convincing win at Randwick.

Arabian Gold ($3.20) and Bound For Earth ($8.50) are the only other contenders in single figures but face a massive task of running down Guelph.

“Guelph is a class filly and is coming off a strong win in the Tea Rose Stakes. She should beat these and show she will be a force in anything she contests during the spring carnival in Melbourne,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

In Epsom betting, Toydini remains the firm $4.40 favourite despite drawing barrier 14. Stablemate Streama has firmed slightly, $7.50 into $7.00, with Boban splitting them at $4.80. Gai Waterhouse’s Equador is on the fourth line of betting at $10.

The top two picks in Metropolitan betting, Prince Cheri ($4.00) and Moriarty ($4.50) will eyeball each other in the gates after drawing ideally in barrier two and one respectively. Julienas looks to be the one who could spoil that party, currently priced at $8.00.

Melbourne Cup top pick Puissance De Lune holds his place at the top of betting in the Turnbull Stakes at $3.20. In a crack field, PDL sits above Royal Descent ($4.50), Fiorente ($6.00), Super Cool, Hawkspur (both $9.00), Fawkner ($13), Silent Achiever ($17) and Dear Demi ($21) among others.

Fawkner Firms To Win Caulfield Cup

Lloyd Williams’ decision to run Fawkner in Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes has given punters an indication that Fawkner is his number one pick for the Caulfield Cup and the betting confirms it.

“Fawkner has been our biggest mover in Caulfield Cup betting in the past week firming from $67 into $26,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.

“The fact team Williams took Green Moon and Sea Moon out of the Turnbull Stakes to ensure Fawkner got a run tells us he is considered a major Caulfield Cup contender by the stable and the money has backed that up.”

Fawkner has opened a $13 chance in the Turnbull Stakes at Sportingbet Australia. Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune heads the betting at $3.80 ahead of Fiorente who has already been well supported from $5.50 into $5.

“Fiorente is the early punters pick well backed as soon as the market went up, but we expect Puissance De Lune to have good support before Saturday after drawing barrier 1.” Felgate said.

Sportsbet Punters Sweating On A Sea Eagles Win To Claim The Double

A handful of punters with online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia will be sweating on Manly winning Sunday’s NRL Grand Final after placing wagers on a special multi – Tony Abbott and the Coalition to win the Federal Election into the Sea Eagles winning the Premiership – way back in August.

At the odds of $6.50, the savvy punters placed their bets on August 22, a time when the LNP were paying $1.08 to salute and Manly $5.50 to win the premiership.

“There was actually more bets on Labor winning the election into the Broncos winning the Grand Final but if Manly get up, it’s fair to say that we’ve witnessed some astute punting,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

71% of all money bet on the match has now been placed on the Roosters after a mini surge in support for Manly yesterday. The Chooks are the $1.67 favourites, with Manly the $2.25 outsiders.

Sportsbet  is also offering up a double-barrel name bet on the decider, with $5.00 available for any of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Sonny Bill Williams, Frank Paul Nuuausala or Daly Cherry-Evans to score the game’s first try.

In other popular markets, money is coming in 5 to 1 for the Roosters to cover the -2.5 line at $1.92, Jamie Lyon at $13 is the best backed player to score the first try, just ahead of SBW at $19 and Tuivasa-Sheck at $11.

With a tight clash expected, punters will have their losing head-to-head on the GF refunded if the final margin of the game is 10 points or less.

Fiorente Pressing For Turnbull Stakes Favouritism

Gai Waterhouse trained Fiorente has been heavily backed by punters with online bookmaker Sportsbet Australia to win Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

Fiorente has firmed from $6.00 into $4.60 and if the weight of money continues he could usurp Puissance De Lune ($4.00) from top spot in the Group 1.

“Fiorente blew them away with a strong win in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam last month and punters obviously think he can do it again. There has just been a consistent flow of support since the field was announced with punting thinking Puissance De Lune is vulenerable,’’ Sportsbet’s Shaun Anderson said.

Super Cool has also attracted support and is into $8.00 while Fawkner ($11) has admirers firming from $13.

In other racing news, Toydini has drifted from $4.40 to $4.60 for the Epsom Handicap while Prince Cheri is in from $3.00 to $3.90 to be the favourite for the Metropolitan.

Punter Stands To Collect $148,000 If Nate Fyfe Kicks AFL Grand Final First Goal

A Sportingbet punter will collect a massive $148,000 if Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe kicks the first goal of this afternoon’s AFL grand final.

The punter has had $3,000 on Fyfe to kick the first goal at odds of $21 and another $5,000 on him at $17.

“The punter has form too as he successfully turned $3,000 into $36,000 after backing Hayden Ballantyne to kick the first goal at odds of $12 earlier in the season,” Sportingbet spokesman Andrew Brown said.

The same punter has also had $3,000 on Aaron Sandilands to kick the first goal, at odds of $26 with Sportingbet.

Hawthorn is a $1.68 favourite at Sportingbet with Fremantle the $2.25 outsiders.

“Fremantle has firmed from $2.45 but the momentum is starting to shift back towards the Hawks,” Brown said.

“For every five-figure bet we take for the Dockers, we’re taking 10 for the Hawks,” Brown said.

Sam Mitchell, Luke Hodge and Fyfe are $7 equal favourites at Sportingbet for the Norm Smith medal but there has been a solid push for Brad Sewell.

“Sewell is $15 into $12 for the Norm Smith and has attracted a $1,000 bet and multiple $500 bets over the past 24 hours,” Brown said.

Stephen Larkham Takes The Running To Coach ACT Brumbies

Favourite son Stephen Larkham has been installed as the early favourite by online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to take over as head coach of the ACT Brumbies following the departure of Jake White.

Larkham sits atop the market at $1.66, just ahead of former Brumbies coach Laurie Fisher, who’s at $2.15.

“It looks to be a two-Brumby race between the current assistant coaches as the rest of the candidates are at massive odds,”sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Those other candidates include former Wallabies coach Robbie Deans ($15), former Rebels coach Damien Hill ($21) and barista George Gregan ($51).

Despite the coaching change, the Brumbies are still tipped to have a stellar season, priced at $6.00 and on the third line of betting just behind the Chiefs ($4.50) and Crusaders ($5.50) to win the 2014 Super Rugby crown.

Rebel Dane Blows In Rupert Clarke Betting

The Gary Portelli trained Rebel Dane has eased from $4.40 out to $4.80 at Sportingbet for Sunday’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.

Second favourite Solzhenitsyn has firmed from $7 into $6.50 and Strawberry Boy has shortened from $8 into $7.

“We haven’t written a bet over $500 for the favourite but there’s been plenty of cash around for a few at longer odds,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“Rebel Dane is having his first start at Caulfield and has a tricky barrier. At this stage the punters have abandoned him and he could start closer to $6 on Sunday,” Brown said.

Australian Guineas winner Ferlax has also attracted support and is $10 into $9.50 at Sportingbet, while Temple Of Boom has shortened from $21 into $18.
