Neighbouring arch-rivals South Sydney and the Sydney Roosters haven’t met in a grand final for 82 years, but a punter at Sportingbet is confident that is all about to change.
The punter has placed $72,000 on both the Rabbitohs and the Roosters to win their respective preliminary finals and seal a grand final berth this weekend. Should the punter be right, he will collect $200,160.
“His confidence is shared by the majority of our punters, who are overwhelmingly supporting both the Roosters and the Bunnies this weekend,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.
“The money is running 80/20 in favour of Souths beating Manly and betting is even more lopsided in the other game, where more than 85% of wagers are for the Roosters,” Brown said.
The Rabbitohs have firmed from $1.50 into $1.42 at Sportingbet, while Manly has eased from $2.65 out to $2.95.
In the other preliminary final, the Roosters have shortened from $1.40 into $1.33, resulting in the Knights’ odds drifting from $3.00 out to $3.45.
The Roosters are $2.40 favourites at Sportingbet to win the grand final, ahead of Souths at $2.60, Manly at $6 and Newcastle at $7.50.
Sonny Bill Williams has firmed from $10 into $6 to win the Clive Churchill medal while Greg Inglis is a $7 second favourite.
